Internships

Your college years are a special time, packed with the excitement of learning new things. Our professionals support and enhance the college experience in every way we can through providing the products and services students need. With over 800 stores and over 135 years of history, we're experts at what we do.

In a very real way, you're an expert at what you do, too. You know what it's like to be a college student in a changing educational, social, and technological world.

We invite you to bring that valuable experience to our Summer Student Internship Programs, where you'll use every bit of your academic training, your people savvy, and your problem-solving talents while developing marketable skills in a fast-paced retail environment. Opportunities exist in the Home Office in Oak Brook and Westmont, Illinois, and the corporate office in River Grove, Illinois.

The Home Office supports our stores and field staff in every function. Departments with 10-week summer Home Office internship opportunities include: General Merchandise, Finance, Accounting, Project Management, Human Resources, eCommerce, Integrated Marketing and Information Technology. You must have Junior or Senior standing, be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university, and possess a GPA of 3.0 or above. The summer Internship Retail Management Program are 10-week programs that will teach you the basics of the college store industry and the fundamentals of retailing, in general. At this time, opportunities exist at the following locations only: University of Florida Bookstore in Gainesville, FL; University of North Florida Bookstore in Jacksonville, FL. You must have Junior or Senior standing, be currently enrolled at the above universities, and possess a GPA of 3.0 or above.

The summer 2011 Internship opportunities will be posted in December 2010.

Job Shadow Program

Follett Higher Education Group’s Job Shadow Program is a one-day event that will offer students the opportunity to “shadow” FHEG professionals through a normal day on the job as well as offer valuable networking opportunities.  We seek to provide Job Shadow Program participants with a supportive environment where they can meet some of the industry’s best people and cultivate a better understanding of the relationship between their educational pursuits and career objectives.

Job Shadow opportunities will be offered in FHEG’s offices in the western suburbs of Chicago on January 6 and 13, 2011.

Job Shadow Program participants must be currently enrolled college students, sophomore standing preferred.  Qualified participants have GPA of 3.0/4.0 or above, demonstrated commitment to academic and extracurricular excellence, excellent customer service acumen, and superior verbal and written communication skills.  Students can apply to shadow professionals in all disciplines found within a corporate retail environment.

Store Management Training Programs

There's something for almost everyone at Follett. Whether your experience is limited to one year of service in a retail supervisory position or you have several years of experience handling a large-volume/multi-site retail store, our Management Training Program can open the door to tremendous opportunities for you. In short, you'll definitely be going places with us.

This dynamic program will introduce you to every aspect of managing a college bookstore...hands-on. From greeting your first customer in the morning, to coordinating a sales promotion to meeting with college faculty to analyzing financial performance, you'll run the full gamut of short-term and long-term bookstore operations.

As with any smart company, we understand that people have different learning styles. Which is why we customize your training program to fit you personally. We do this by combining training modules, and classroom instructions with hands-on training techniques. We also constantly provide feedback and listen to your needs. No two programs are the same because no two individuals are the same.
